Interview With Victor Martinez

Interview With Victor Martinez

Discussing His First Summertime Job

  1. Mary: How do you feel working here? (This is a stationery store in the local market place).
Victor: I feel good. I had an [issue] with a co-worker right after I started working, but we found a solution and now everything is on its right place.
  2. Mary: Have you ever worked in another place before?
Victor: No, this is my first job.
  3. Mary: Do you feel fine with the amount of money you receive at the end of every week? Do you think you deserve more?
Victor: I feel fine with it, but I believe I should receive more according to the effort I put on every task.
  4. Mary: Do you have a certain reason to work during summertime? What do you need the money for?
Victor: I work during summertime because I like being productive and learning things every day. I use the money to buy some of my college supplies and to help my family [with] some small expenses.
  5. Mary: Is [this] a friendly working environment? Do you get along with all your co-workers?
Victor: Yes, but I’ve just met a couple of new people here and I need time to get to know them.
  6. Mary: Do you feel this job is tiresome? Have you already learned to manage the stress?
Victor: At the beginning it was very hectic because all [of the] customers wanted my attention. I think I can cope with the stress now.
  7. Mary: Do you think this job has helped you to improve your interpersonal relationships?
Victor: Yes, I do. I was very shy before this working opportunity and now I feel I can be more talkative.
  8. Mary: If you had the chance to choose another summer job which one would [it] be? Why?
Victor: I don’t really have any preferences yet. I just accept whatever I think suits me and that I can get paid on time.
  9. Mary: How is your relationship with the store owners/managers?
Victor: It’s a very good one. They got to know me last year. This is my second “back to school” working season at the store.
  10. Mary: Do you believe this is a safe [place] to work at?
Victor: We all know there is delinquency in the surrounding [areas], but here in the central part of it I feel safe enough to work and people still come to buy school supplies.
